TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT

We can change your cam belt to prevent costly engine damage

Timing Belts or Cam Belts are vital within every cars engine. The timing belt is what controls the engines timing with regards valves. The belt is attached between the crankshaft and the camshaft.

By controlling the opening and closing of the valves the timing belt ensures combustion occurs at the correct time and the engine combusts as it is meant to. If the belt fails then the combustion can become uncontrolled and serious and more importantly fatal engine damage can occur as the combustion takes place at the wrong time and the engine literally blows itself apart.

Every car manufacturer sets slightly different servicing schedules so the recommended intervals for replacing the cam belt can vary. In a lot of cases it is recommended to change the belt every 7 years or 60,000 miles although it is best to check within your owner’s manual or contact us for exact service schedules.

If you have recently bought a 2nd hand car and you are unsure of the service history it can be a wise move to replace the timing belt as a precaution as the cost is far less than the cost of a replacement engine or expensive engine rebuild.

It is also sometimes advisable to replace other things on the timing belt system such as the water pump as the labour cost is negligible when swapped as part of the timing belt but if it was to fail on its own despite the pump itself costing little, the labour can be a high build as the timing belt needs removing..

CHECK YOUR TIMING BELT HISTORY NOW

We can’t emphasize enough the importance of checking when your cam belt was last changed and if it is due to be replaced don’t put it off until a later date unless you can afford the engine rebuild should it fail.
