EMISSIONS TESTING from €30

The Irish government introduced the National Car Test in 2000 to ensure all cars on our roads are safe and in a roadworthy condition.

The NCT check for leaks in the exhaust system and secondly they measure the levels of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbons present in the gas emissions.

Should your vehicles exhaust gas contain levels of these toxic gases above what is deemed acceptable or if a leak is detected in the exhaust system, your car will fail and must be re-tested.

At Cobra Garage we offer a pre-NCT emissions test for your car using the latest in gas analysing technology. We perform the same inspection, measuring your car’s emissions at both high and low engine idle.

The analysis we get from the readings given from your exhaust system, means that we then can inform you, whether or not your vehicle will make it through the NCT procedure, and or what can then be done by Cobra garage to remedy the situation should any problems arise.

There are various issues that may cause a vehicle to fail an NCT emissions test. A high hydrocarbons reading can indicate problems within the engine management system.

A high lamda reading may indicate a leak in the exhaust system alternatively a high carbon monoxide reading can indicate a faulty catalytic converter or possibly the cars lamda sensor.
